Townsend and Finney Plan To Attend Parley on Trade Barriers.
Governor Townsend and Frank
Finney, State Motor Vehicle Bureau | §
Director, will attend the Nationfl Conference on Interstate Trade Barriers in Chicago April 5, 6 and 7. Among the more important trade barriers: now existing among states are the truck and motor vehicle regulations. Mr. Finney said oné of the first aims of the conference will be to pave the way for reciprocal agreements among states on truck license fees. : More Agreements Sought “Extra barriers against interstate truck traffic are harmful to all kinds of commerce because ‘much of the goods are shipped by truck,” Mr. Finney said. Indiana now has reciprocal agreements on truck licenses with Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, West Virginia, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Utah. © Efforts will be made to get agreements with as many other states as possible, Mr. Finney said.
Legislature Commented
Recently passed ammendments to Indiana’s liquor laws eliminated the port-of-entry fees and Indiana
officials will not be concerned with this part of the conference. The Council of State Governments in a letter to Governor Townsend today commended the Indiana Legislature on its removal of the beer entry fees and for the legislation that will permit Indiara to join an Ohio River flood control compact with other bordering states.

Although the Board has heard appeals and granted refunds totaling about $650,000 on inheritance taxes paid by nonresidents under the 1937 law, three cases started yesterday were the first residence appeals. . Board Member C. R. Benjamin said commissioners were getting data for a definite stand against most of the appeals for refunds. “One petition for a refund was based upon the fact that an heir to an estate died before the prescribed life expectancy and therefore the estate should have a refund of taxes for the unused por-
