The New York and San Francisco World Fairs are wielding an influence on Midwestern social life. : - The Children’s -Museum Guild has arranged its own miniature hall of nations for the Internationsl Exhibition of Handicrafts and Folk Music which opens tomorrow at L. S. Ayres’ auditori % For weéks news of the local affair has traveled among foreignith the result that a great variety of exhibits has been entered, ac rding to Mrs. Joseph Ha= maker, Guild ways and means chairman. | ‘Aiding in the principal ‘objective of the exhibition—to show the relation of handicraft to health—are the Indianapolis Junior League, St. Margaret’s Guild and School for. the Blind which will have occupational therapy exhibits with craftsmen to explain them each day. Boy Scout Cub troops and Girl Scouts will show their handicraft in the afternoons and Orchard School piplis ‘are to exhibit pioneer American handcraft daily. As‘an appre priate setting for early American crafts, the pioneer room from the Children’s Museum is to be transferred to Ayres’ auditorium. | ’ ! “Dr. Thomas B. Brant, a native of Italy, is lending Venetian. glass, handblown according to a design submitted by Mr. Brant; &n ex. quisitely embroidered Point Assissi tablecloth and some pieces of Pompeian bronze. ‘The Italian exhibit will also feature an 80-year-old Italian wedding dress loaned by Miss Mary Lombardo. . ‘Scotland is to be represented by ‘a copy of Robert Burns’ poems purchased by Mrs. D. L. Hutcheson at Burns’ house in Scotland. Mrs. Mary Noble is lending a Glen Airy bonnet, a tea cozy and some . Gas china from Scotland as well as pieces from Norway, Holland and Italy. ; : . Mrs. John Goldthwaite is sending mountaineers’ craft work from the Pi Beta Phi Settlement school at Gatlinburg, Tenn. including baskets, woven linens, wool scarfs and a coverlet. Discussions of present youth needs and of world travels are scheduled for two meetings of Marion County Parent-Teacher Associations next week. Another group will entertain at a mother and daughter banquet. Virgil Stinebaugh, assistant superintendent in charge of Indianapolis junior high schools, will speak at the meeting of the Warren Central High School P.-T. A. at 7:30 p. m, Wednesday at the school. Mr. Stinebaugh will discuss “Adjusting the Curriculum to the Needs of Today’s Youth.” Paul Hamilton will have charge of the music.
