Action Made Necessary by Legislature’s Failure to: Provide Funds.

The . State Safety Department is to discontinue its annual State Police recruit training school owing to failure of the Legislature to ap‘propriate funds for additional per‘sonnel, Don F. Stiver, State Safely Director, announced today.

The school has been held at|c ‘Bloomington each year since 1935. Mr. Stiver said the 200 uniformed ‘men now . comprising the force ‘would not be increased in the next two years and that 15 eligible men on the waiting list would be’ used to fill vacancies. If this list is exhausted, students enrolled in the four-year police administration course at Indiana University may ‘be considered as applicants for the Department. Mr. Stiver. pointed out the State Police Board has ruled graduates ‘from this course are able to meet standards established under the De,partment’s merit system. : Officials said they are considering ‘a training course for patrolmen and officers as a “review” of modern ‘methods of police operation.
