Truck Test

Marmon-Herring ton Co. Tries Machines in State ‘Arabia.’

N Indiana “Arabia” of loose sands and high, shifting dunes is being used by the Marmon-Her-rington Co. of Indianapolis to test its all-wheel-drive trucks for service in Arabia. The first part of a fleet of the trucks, being built for an oil company, is being driven over the dunes | where soil conditions resemble a desert. Oil field service on the Arabian] desert is a severe test of a truck’s power, tractive ability and stamina, | according to the company. “Some years ago our trucks were used in transporting pipe and equip-| ment for the oil pipe line from Iraq] to the Mediterranean Sea,” A. W. Herrington said. “This distance of 1200 miles across desert country was so wild that armed guards were necessary to protect the property from the desert] tribes. It was about the same: time that regular freight and passenger; service, using Marmon-~Herrington equipment, was established across| the Syrian desert from Damascus to Bagdad.” In addition to heavy duty models

x of Marmon-Herrington trucks, the

local company also converts all standard Ford trucks, passenger cars and commercial cars to all-wheel-drives.
