"FOOD ‘STAMPS PLAN MAY SPUR DAIRY INDUSTRY
Increase Also Expected in Citrus Fruits and Fresh Vegetables.
WASHINGTON, March 9 (U. PJ). —The Government’s proposed program to subsidize increased food purchases of relief clients will be aimed at an immediate increase in the sale of dairy products, citrus * fruits and fresh vegetables, officials said today. Milo Perkins, president of the
Federal Surplus Commodities Corp. which drafted the program, said
the list of surplus products would |
be varied from month to month to aid in the disposal of surplus seasonal crops. Corporation officials said that products purchased under the present surplus removal program and distributed free to state relief agencies will be used in the first experimental phase of the new program. These purchases have included citrus fruits, dried fruits, eggs, dried beans, vegetables, dried and fluid milk, butter ang cheese. Officials predicted that the proposed program would result in increased consumption of those foods.
Effective April 15
The program, to be presented to a food and grocery committee of food retailers here next Monday, will become effective about April 15 if approved by the committee and President Roosevelt. The plan provides for issuance of free stamps good for the purchase of surplus foods to relief clients. Relief clients who take part pay in “orange” stamps to be exchanged for all foods at regular grocery stores, would be . given “blue stamps” equal to one-half the value of the orange. The blue stamps would be good on purchases of the surplus foods. - The program would be put into effect on an experimental basis in _ five or six major cities having a | large proportion of relief population, officials said. If successful it would be broadened gradually to include the entire nation.

—Edward A. I had severe pains in my legs and at times they hurt me so bad I could hardly bear my weight on them. Scanty, burning passages gave me a lot of trouble and I had a constant dull aching across the small of my back. Nervous indigestion tortured me day and night, nothing I ate would digest, I'd have sour belches and swell with gas until I was miserable. After every meal I'd have these attacks,
