North Side Prowler Leaps Through Windows at Five Places.

~ A tall man, clad in a long overcoat and with a pocketful of matches, early today entered seven North Side homes but escaped with a total of only $1:50 in loot. Police said

man but descriptions were meager. In most cases he used lighted matches to see his way around. Five times he was frightened away. Police said he began the night's activities by ransacking the apartment of Ruby McKay, 1733 N. Meridian St., while no one was home. He took nothing. Mrs. Mary F. Neff and her daughter were asleep at their home, 2019 Central Ave. Mrs. Neff awakened to see a man carrying a lighted match. She screamed and the man left through an open window.

Hilda Woodford, 26, reported that a man took $1.50 and a non-nego-tiable savings certificate for $40 from the dining room of her home, 1664 College Ave. She turned on a light and he left through an open window.

Joseph Thompson, 1832 N. Capitol Ave., told police his wife was awak-| . ened by a man who carried a lighted match. She screamed and the prowler jumped through a bedroom window to escape. Pyrel Dakins told police a man entered her bedroom at 1638 N. Illinois St. and fled through an open window when she sat up in bed and screamed.

1600 HOOSIERS GIVEN

WASHINGTON, March 8.—There were 4471 Railroad Retirement Board annuities and pensions in force in Indiana at the end of the fiscal year, June 30, 1933, and payments amounted to $271,823.40 monthly, the board reported today. Of this total, 2773 were employee annuities amounting to $172,440.50 a month and 1652 pensions amounting to $97,697.99 monthly. Survivor and death-benefit annuities totaled 46 and amounted to $1684.83 monthly.

VALPARAISO-PURDUE COURSES ARE LINKED

VALPARAISO, March 8 (U. PJ). —A plan which: would permit engineering students to complete their courses at Purdue University was announced here today by Dr. W. G. Friedrich, dean of the Valparaiso University engineering department. Students would complete a two or three-year course at Valparaiso and a two-year course at Purdue fio qualify for an A. B. or B. S. degree in engineering.

EVIDENCE LIMITED AT’LABOR HEARING

NEW CASTLE, March 8 (U. P.). —Evidence of violence in labor trouble at the Chrysler factory here was excluded at a Labor Board hearing on recognition for bargaining rights. It was expected that the union which could show the most strength, according to testimony, would be granted exclusive bargaining rights. Three unions are contesting for the powers.
