Burned Putting Out Fire—Willard McClain, 18, of 111 Kansas St., was treated for first-degree burns about the face: today at Methodist Hos- | pital after an oil stove set fire to ' merchandise. in the Blue Point Service Station, S. Delaware St and Madison Ave. He was burned while putting out the blaze, police said.

Patrolman Houck Promoted—Patrolman Walter Houck has been pro- . moted to rank of sergeant, Police Chief Morrissey announced today. Sergt. Houck, a Police Department member since 1934, will be assigned to motorcycle duty.

Scouts Compete Tonight — Boy Scouts from 12 Indianapolis troops will compete tonight and tomorrow night in local eliminations of ihe Midwest “first aid competition” conducted under the joint sponsorship of the national Scout organization and the Red Cross. Contests will start at 7:30 o'clock in the Indiana War ‘Memorial. Troops competing tonight include Nos. 90, 83, 57, 118, 42 and 114; tomorrow night Nos. 53, 69, 93, 78 and 112.

New G. O. P. Club to Meet—The newly organized Morton Republican Club of the Second Ward will meet at 8 p. m. tomorrow in the I. O. O. F. Hall, 10th and Rural Sts. Robert Alford, president, will preside.

N H. L. Gause Joins Law Firm—Harry L. Gause has been made a partner in .the law firm of Samuel O. Pickens, Fred C. Gause and Owen Pickens, itt was announced today. The new: member formerly served as Marion County deputy prosecutor, deputy attorney-general of Indiana, and’president of the Lawyers’ Association of Indianapolis.

Beauticians Meet Tonight—State Rep. Howard Heistand, Kentland, will speak at a meeting of about 100 local beauty shop owners tonight in the Hotel Washington. Rep. Hiestand will review the progress of House Bill 581, which would amend the State beauty culture law.

Old Timers to Banquet—The annual banquet of the Old Timers’ Association of Kingan & Co. will be held at 6:30 p. m. Tuesday, it was announced today. F. A. Bryan is in charge of the affair.

Legion Post Seeks Members—An effort to enroll 33 more veterans by March 15 is being made by membership teams of Tillman H. Harpole Post, American Legion, so that the post may reach treble its 1939 quota, The teams will report at a meeting Monday night when Judge Wilfred Bradshaw, former 12th District commander, will speak. Al ex-service men are invited. The post headquarters are at 2523 Northwestern Ave.

Paint Expert to Talk—New styles in house painting will be discussed tomorrow night at a spring conference of painters and paperhangers, at the Hotel Severin. Fred Runte, nationally known paint consultant, will speak on “The Painter and the Problem House.” Wallpapers will be discussed by Charles B.. Brownson. Nearly 450 Indiana painters and paperhangers are expected to attend. The program will start at 7 p. m,,

Exchange to See Preview--Ex-change Club members are to get a preview of the Sportsman Show at the weekly noon luncheon of the club tomorrow at the Hotel Washington. Several performers are scheduled to appear in the show, starting Saturday at the Fair Grounds. :
