Soon to Be Highest for Years

* With Issuance of Relief Bonds.

rere

The issuance of more than one million dollars worth of poor relief bonds within the next few months will bring Marion County's bonded

debt near the 10 million dollar mark, the highest in several years, records in the County Auditor's office disclosed today. The County's bonded debt Jan. 1 was 8,580,000, of which $1,191,300 must be paid out of the County's sinking fund this year along with interest charges totaling $229,000. The bonded debt a year ago was $7,830,650. : 1 Among the oldest of fhe bonds still outstanding are those for the World War Memorial, issued in 1922 for a total of $1.250,000, of which $158,000 still is outstanding. These bonds are. being paid off at the rate of about $40,000 & year.

yond budget appropriations raised

by direct taxation. Of the total, more than $1,200,000 was used for relief in Center Township. The remainder went to other townships. Due to a higher poor relief tax rate for Center Township this year, the 1939 bond issue will not be as large as in 1938, X. Smith, Center Township attorney, said. The amount needed will not be determined until May or June, he said.
