A two-day regional meeting of the Catholic Conference on Industrial Problems, sponsored by the Most Rev. Joseph E. Ritter, bishop of the Diocese of Indianapolis, will

be opened at the Severin Hotel

‘Monday. The local committee making ar- . rangements is headed by the Rev. Fr. August Fussenegger, diocesan director of charities. Vice chairmen are Thomas D. Sheerin, John E. Smith and Mrs. Charles L. Barry. Dr. Paul Kiniery of Loyola University, Chicago, will open the Monday morning session with an address on “American Economic Life.” “Industry’s Plan for the Future” will be the subject of an address by William A. Hanley, El Lilly Co. director, The Rev. Fr. + Joseph G. Kempf of St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, will speak on “The Encyclical and - Economic Life,” also on the morning program. Youth Talk Due

+ In the afternoon Mr. Smith will introduce Edward V. Crowe, Detroit, Arch-diocesan Catholic Youth Organization executive secretary, who will speak on youth and industry. The Rev. Fr. M. M. Hoffman of Columbia College, Dubuque, Iowa, also will take part in the afternoon program with an address on “The . Encyclical in Relation to Wages and Employment.” 4 Leo E. Keller, Detroit, Brotherhood Maintenance of Way Employees statistician, and T. P. Joyce, Camden, N. J, R. C. A. Manufacturing Co, official, will jointly discuss co-operation between labor and employer in the evening. The Rev. Fr. John P. Boland, New York State Labor Relations Board chairman, will discuss “Standards Set by the Encyclical.” They will be introduced by State Senator Eugene Payton, a member of the Notre Dame University faculty.

EX-CONGRESSMAN DIES

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 24 (U, P.). ~—Thomas G. Patten, three-time member of Congress from New York and the man who cast the deciding favorable vote on the Federal Reserve Act, died at his home here yesterday. He was 77.

FILE MURDER CHARGE IN WOMAN'S DEATH

Miss Florine Hughley, 20, 765 Indiana Ave., died today of a shotgun wound, police reported. Edward Kelley, 46, of the same address, was arrested and charged by police with murder. Police said a witness told them Kelley had shot Miss Hughley and that Kelley told them she had threatened him with a knife, he had grabbed the gun, and that it was accidentally discharged.
