Reunion Marks Division’s Celebration of Front--Line Entry.

Celebrating the 2ist anniversary of their first entrance into frontline trenches in France, soldiers of _ the Rainbow Division gathered last “night at the Indianapolis Athletic Club in reunion.

Johnson, assistant , Secretary of Commerce, delivered the principal address and lauded the Administration’s defense program, “The United States could not .keep out of a major turmoil very - .long an dall that is keeping foreign powers from engaging in one is the ‘fact that this nation is noncommittal,” he said.

More than a score of wartime leaders, present and past officers of the Rainbow Division Veterans’ Association and other military leaders addressed nation-wide audiences over the Mutual and Columbia Broadcasting systems. “Any intelligent person would not want to get into war,” Col. Johnson ‘said, “but we'd go if it were choosing between that and something ;worse than war. It is merely the lesser of two evils. “There is nothing more salutary] in the world than a United States ‘well equipped to defend itself ade‘quately. We never can .be certain of avoiding a major world turmoil

The State Department of Conser«vation will feature some of its major activities in an exhibit at the an-

He will discuss the life of Paul Claudel, one of the greatest French statesmen and writers, who was Ambassador to the United States at the time of his conversion to the Catholic faith. Dr. Bernard J. Larkin will preside. This will be the ‘fourth lecture of the annual forum sponsored by the Indiana Chapter of the International Federation of Catholic Alumnae, under the direction of the Rev. Henry F. Dugan, chancellor of the Indianapolis Catholice diocese. Dr. DuBos, who has been at Notre Dame since he came from France in 1937, to conduct a three-year course on Pascal, will speak to the Catholic Sisters of the city at 2 p. m. Sunday in Ladywood School and at 6 p. m. will be guest of the Alliance Francaise at a banquet in his honor at the Hotel Washington.
HOLDUP MAN MEETS MATCH IN WIDOW, 56
NEW YORK, Feb. 23 (U. P.)— When a holdup man hit Mrs. Antoinette Dick, 56-year-old widow, on the head with his gun last night, she flew intg” him, wrested his revolver away, ‘and chased him out of her candy store. Today Ignatz Nappo, 16, was in a hospital, a bullet wound in his chest. Mrs. Dick said that he returned later and demanded the pistol and it was dicharged accidentally. © Nappo was arrested on a charge of felonious assault and battery.
