: Wheat prices fluctuated in a nar-

row range around previous closing levels on the Chicago Board of Trade today. At the close wheat was unchanged to up % cent, May 67%; corn was unchanged to up % cent, May 48%. and oats were % cent lower, May 27%. ‘There was sufficient commission house buying of wheat to hold the market steady in light preholiday trading. Cold weather in the winter wheat belt had a constructive influence. Traders paid little attention to an easier Liverpool market. Local shippers sold about 80,000 bushels of cash wheat. There was little mill buying. Trading consisted mostly of evening up operations. Corn prices moved in a narrow range in a very thin market. Trading interest was small. Buenos Aires closed barely steady. Local grain receipts included an estimated 67 cars of corn and 10 cars of wheat. : The Board of Trade will be closed Monday in SelbHo of Lincoln's birthday.

"GOOD MUSIC" By James Thrasher

Tomorrow, through the vagari of program planning, we are to have a feast of piano playing. The radio schedule’s imposing list of virtuosos include Walter Gieseking, Myra Hess, Robert Casadesus and Henrietta Schumann. Considering the artists in chronological order, Miss Schumann will head the parade with an appearance on the Radio City Music Hall hour, 11 a. m. NBC-Blue. She is to play the second and third movements of Beethoven’s Concerto No. 4 in G Major, which the Radio City publicity calls “probably the most mysteriously illusive composition in the history of great music.” a n 8

Much less familiar, in fact, is the Rachmaninoff Concerto No. which Mr. Gieseking will play with the New York Philharmonic-Sym-phony at 2 p. m., CBS-WFBM-—al-though Miss Schumann performed it last week. This will be the first time the distinguished German pianist has been heard with the New York orchestra since November, 1937, at which time he also played a Rachi Concerto—the C Minor 0. 2. : John Barbiroli will be back on the podium tomorrow after a fortnight’s vacation. His program includes, besides the concerto, Berlioz? “Roman Carnival” Overture and the “Eroica” Symphony of Beethoven. ® = ” Z Miss Hess is to participate in

concert, which will be devoted Haydn’s music.- She will be he with two members-of the Pro String Quartet in the Trio in Flat No. 11. The Pro Arte playe have scheduled also the Qus Opus 74 No. 2 and Opus 76 No The broadcast is on NBC-Blue-

5 p. m, with WIRE Sanying last halt hour. ‘o

EJ 2 2 In the course of his Afth Ameri can tour in the last five seasons, Mr. Casadesus will stop off in Detroi tomorrow night to appear on th Sunday night hour’s broadcast by

that city’s symphony orchestra. With the orchestra, he will play the “Crusader’s March” and “Cru= sader’s Return” from Weber’s “Con= certstueck” and, as solos, the Minuet from Ravel's Sonatine, Debussy’s “Jardins sous la Pluie” and the Scherzo-Valse by Chabrier.

Connoisseurs hold the renowned Arturo Toscanini in particularly high regard as a Brahms interpre= ter. And since Mr. Toscanini has chosen an all-Brahms program for tonight’s broadcast with the NBC Symphony Orchestra, it should be . something of an event. The program is to open with the Fourth Symphony. Following this will come the “Liebeslieder” Waltzes for piano duet and mixed voices, Opus 52. The pianists will be Joseph Kahn and Eric Leinsdorf, the Metropolitan Opera's new and youthful Wagner conductor. Concluding the concert will be the “Academic Fes tival” Overture, 8 8 8 A composition by Harriet Payne, violist of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, is on the Roches= ter Civic Orchestra’s broadcast program at 2 p. m. Monday, NBC-Blue, The work is titled Variations on an - Original Theme, and is scored for full orchestra. It was written in 1935-36. Miss Payne is an Indianapolis - native and a former composition pupil of Eugene Goossens, the Cinecinnati Symphony Orchestra's cone
