- ASSURED IN ’39 FARM INGOMES
Price Level Soon to Pass Prewar Level, Say U. S. Economists.
- WASHINGTON, Feb. 7 (U. P)— ‘An improved agricultural situation this year is “assured,” the Department of Agriculture has reported in “forecasting an increase in farm in‘come.
farm products turned sharply upward in the fall of 1938 and regained most of the losses of the * early part of the year, department “economists said. A strengthening factor in coming months will be the improved con- ~ sumer demand flowing from increased industrial activity during the last half of 1938,” the Bureau of Agricultural Economics said. : The average price of. principal farm products at the close of 1938 was 96 per tent of prewar and. the highest since March, 1938, the bu- _ reau reported. Indications are that the price level will pass the prewar figures by spring. Half Billion From AAA

was $8,574,000,000. The gross included $482.000,000 in Government benefit payments under ‘the Agricultural Adjustment Administration. The department predicted that consumer demand for farm products will continue to rise, at least during the early part of this year. Greatest increases were forecast in meats, vegetables and dairy products, commodities which suffered greatest = during the recession. yg “Consumer demand for most farm . products ‘apparently continues to . lag behind the rise in industrial activity,” the department said. “Consumer incomes have not advanced as os much as industrial activity. : -“Past experience in recovery periods indicates, however, that incomes will continue to increase for a time after the initial rise in industrial activity has ceased.
Return to Normal Slow
“Following a recovery in business activity many consumers who have ‘bden unemployed for some tinge, or whose incomes have been reduced, find it necessary to make certain adjustments before they can go hack to their former buying or consumption practices. “Unpaid rent, store bills, lapsed installment payments and other indebtedness which have accumulated during the recession must be paid, and miscellaneous deplayed purchases of items such as shoes and clothing may be necessary before the "; family is in a position to resume its normal buying of food. 1d “Thus, for a considerable period a after income has been restored the L family may be unable or unwilling ; to pay the grocer higher prices for ) butter, steaks or fruit. Gradually, } however, these consumers find themselves in a position to buy more, or to pay higher prices for foods.” Consumer purchases of farm products may return to normal by late spring if industrial activity continues upward, the department said. This may be followed, it was id, by a longer period of relative stability.
ADVISES BABIES EAT ‘MEAT, VEGETABLES
MELBOURNE, Australia, Feb. 7 (U. P.) —A diet of meat and onions for babies is being advocated by the , City Health Officer. He declared there is too much sentimental attitude toward baby’s milk diet and quoted before the City Council English authorities who state that a 6-month-old baby can safely be fed meat and vegetables.

Retired Garage Owner Tells of Wonderful Relief Through Natex After Every Other Medicine He Tried Had Failed to Help.
“Natex is one medicine that, when it brings you relief, seems to leave nothing at all undone,” exclaimed Mr. Albert Burk, 75, retired garage owner living on Route 7, this city, in a recent conversation with the Natex representative, who is daily meeting scores. of local people at Haag's Claypool Hotel Drug Store, Illinois and Washington Sts. “You can’t even enjoy retirement, I can tell you, when youre forced to: go through suffering like I did a short time ago. I was so constipated that harsh laxative almost became a part of my daily diet. I lost all taste and desire for food, but what little I did eat soured in my stomach and distressed me with indigestion and painful gas. Almost every day, if I didn’t have a dizzy spell, I was almost sure to suffer with a headache. Worst of all, there were such agonizing aches i® my arms, legs and muscles that sometimes I almost had to scream with the agony. Why, the misery was so great that I was often kept awake almost all night, and naturally it was with great difficulty that I got around. “I can truthfully say, however, that a 30-day treatment of Natex did me more good than all the
