P. of L. president William Green announced he would present Yo the council today or tomorrow a Xeport on recent developments in the ght that has split the labor moveent for more than three years. * When the council began its anBul meeting here this week, Mr. Green reported he believed the

° WASHINGTON, Feb. 2 (U. P.).— Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt and Surgeon General Thomas Parran of ‘the U. 8. Public Health Service today had predicted that combined efforts of Federal, state and local ‘governments and voluntary organizations will eradicate venereal disease in America. They spoke at the 26th annual conference of the American Social Hygiene Association, at which Dr. Parran was awarded the William Freeman Snow Medat “for distinguished service to humanity.” Outlining the fight on syphilis and .gonorrhea, Dr. Parran said: ~ “As a nation we have just started {lo fight syphilis. The main job 1s ahead of us, but the movement is forward and the trend is up. . “Thanks to Senator Robert La ‘Follette and Congressman Alfred Bullwinkle, who were leaders of the good fight in the 75th Congress, we “can say confidently that the task is at last possible.” “Mrs. Roosevelt extended to Dr. {Rarran “congratulations and continued best wishes” from President ‘Roosevelt. . She expressed gratitude there is : “someone at the head of the United States Public Health Service who ihas the courage to take up a cause twhich many people dared not even “mention for many years and. bring it “out into the open.” “We are going to see this country iwin out in this fight,” Mrs. Roose- » velt said.

i Tree Weeps “At Its Part In $6 Crime

The weeping willow tree at the home of Blucher A, Poole, 333 W. Hampton Drive, was practically hysterical today, owing to its involuntary participation in a crime there last night. To members of the family and guests, as they played cards, a burglar either sounded like the wind-swayed tree, or the tree sounded like the hurglar. Anyway, they heard a noise but 'didn’¢ investigate, thinking it was the tree rubbing a clothes line pole. When the game ‘broke up, Mrs. Gladys Harvey, 6206 Park Ave. a : winner at cards, found | her purse had been stolen from another room. The purse, rifled of $6 cash, was found in the garden.
