Doctors Fear Death May End Coma Begun Sept. 24, 1935

ERIE, Pa. Jan. 27 (U. P.).—Maxine Yarrington, 5-year-old “sleeping beauty” who has been in a coma since Sept. 24, 1935, was reported in serious condition in St. Vincent's Hospital today from a steady at-

tack of convulsions.

The small girl was stricken with convulsions Sunday and the attack ‘has continued steadily, although in a somewhat milder form, until her

condition has become ‘very weak.”€—

Doctors held out little hope for the patient who is a victim of encephalitis lethargicia. Until the convulsions came upon her, she appeared to be a normal child in sleep.

Eleven days ago she passed her].

fifth birthday and hospital attaches saw no sign of change in her comatose condition, A birthday cake was carried to her bedside but the child maintained her wide-open but expressionless stare and showed no signs of recognizing what was going on. She is the daughter of Lloyd Yarrington of Fairview, Pa.

P suffered a fractured skull.

RHUMMY BAN ADDED IN ‘SINLESS VILLAGE’

BONFIELD, Ill, Jan. 27 (U. P). ‘==This so-called “sinless village,” which has no dance halls, pool rooms or movies and where the sale of liquor or beer is unlawful, eliminated another pastime today. Effective Feb. 1, it will be against the law to play call rhummy. The measure was put through at the suggestion of Mayor Reuben Orwig who had received numerous complaints from “Rhummy Widows.” Wives complained that their husbands gathered in one of the stores and played for a dime a hand.

STUDIES BILLINGS’ PLEA FOR PARDON

Prison Advisory Board Report Expected Next Month.

SACRAMENTO, <Cal, Jan. 27 (U. P.).—A prison advisory board investigated today the application of Warren K. Billings, ‘forgotten man” of the Thomas J. Mooney case, and there were indications that a pardon would be recommended. It must be approved by the State Supreme Court before Governor Culbert Olson may grant it. A report of the board was delayed until next month, due, said Lieut. Gov, Ellis Patterson, the chairman, to a statute requiring inevstigation of all applicants. But Mr. Patterson believed Billings was convicted, as Mooney, on “framed” evidence in the 1916 Preparedness Day bombing in San Francisco.

Billings’ conviction in a prior bomb* case prevented an outright pardon by the Governor.
