BLOOMINGTON, Jan, 11.—Indi-||

ana University students today were

posed by a group of nonorganization students in an open forum. Anticipated renewal of recent tiffs between organized and unorganized leaders failed to materialize at the forum when the group limited its proposals to campus pub- > lications and hobby clubs. Declaring that “activities should be universalized,” the group offered a plan whereby all students entering the university would be required to enter a certain number of extraclass activities. Credit points would - be given each student for his ac- : tivities, and a fixed number of acv tivies credit points would be necessary for graduation. Supporters of the plan argued that “the presence on [the campus of this great Union Building, the gymnasium, the stadium and other recreational centers indicates that the State expects every student to gain additional benefit from sources » outside the classroom.

Explain Their Plan

“The only way to assure these benefits to every student is to channel extra-clags activities so that the student will have opportunity to "| take part in! them Just as he does Hh in a regular class.” | 1 . The proposed system . would not include honorary organizations suth ® as Blue Kay, Mortar] Board and Sphinx Cluby its sponsors said. Robert Liwrence, Indianapolis, an activitiesileader, was one of the . chief opponents of the plan, declarEE ing

“Certainly Istudents- should be encouraged to jtake part in activities, but not forced to do so. You can’t compel a peison to take up a hobby. ¢ It’s just hitman nature. Such a { plan’ of compulsory participation : ; would only end in chaos.” 4 The plan was drawn up by the i © University Forum, of which Dr. { Frank Beck is chairman.
