The fifth Indiana Democrat, Rep. William I. Schulie, is a member of the District of Columbia, Immigra- . tion and naturalization, and Rivers and Harbors committees. Rep. Charles A. Halleck (R. Ind.) is on Civil Service, Interstate and Foreign Commerce, and the World War Veterans’ Legislation commit- . tees, as well as being on the G. O. P. Steering Committee in the House. The six freshmen Republicans from Indiana have not yet been given their committee assignments.

Internal revenue collections for Indiana in December, 1938, were $12,846,352.84, av 91,366.57 lower than for Dece 1937, Will H. Smith, collector of internal revenue, reported today. Total collections for the six- . months period July through December, 1938, were $60,092,891.86, as compared with $59,472,51049 for the

Mid-West Council Offers Trip to Europe, Cash, Scholarships.

A trip to Europe, $50 in cash prizes and $2000 in college scholarships are offered to high school students in the 13th national competitive examination on the League of Nations, sponsored by the Mid-West Council on International Relations. The examination will be based on a study of essential facts regarding the League of Nations, World Court, and International Labor organization, the covenant of the League of Nations and also a pamphlet entitled “Toward a Collective Peace System,” prepared by Mrs. Quincy Wright of Chicago. In Indiana last year, 43 schools participated in the contest with

about 400 students competing for prizes. The purpose of the contest is to promote study of international affairs and increase understanding

of world problems affecting the |

United States.
