G. Johnson, City Sngitcer, ‘was elected president of the Board, {Carl Kortepeter, Marion County “WPA director, vice president, and ‘M. -B. Orr, Indianapolis District ‘WPA supervisor, was appointed as‘sistant flood control engineer. Harvey W. Cassidy, of the City Engineering Department, was reappointed engineer for the Board. - Mr. Johnson, who succeeds Henry -B. Steeg as Board president, has ‘waived $2400 compensation annual1y for serving on the Board. Mr. .Qrr said he would also serve without pay. Two Year Project
- ‘Board members said that present improvements, in various stages of completion, would be finished in two ‘years, but that flood control work on the river would continue as long as WPA money was available. - ‘The five ‘million «dollar WPA grant, which includes unexpended portions of previous allotments, was approved last month and will be - applied to’ the blanket project, which covers. the following improvements: "1.Widening the channel and ‘building a levee along Eagle Creek from White River to Raymond St. . 2. Building retaining walls, widening and dredging the channel of White River from Washington St. to Morris St. ~ 3. Building a levee 15 feet above low water level on the river between Washington and Michigan Sts., also widening the river to 750 feet. 4. Widening to 525 feet and deepening the channel from 30th to 38th St. . 5b. Construction of secondary levees and raising of 30 houses at Rocky Ripple. The homes are to
be raised by elevating foundations. |

frustrated by an employee, William Kelly, 22, 705 S. Meridian St., police reported. The youths, said to be 16 and 18 years old, entered the store. While Mr. Kelly was attending a customer he heard the cash register bell ring, police said. He picked up an iron bar and pursued them. They escaped.

Edward J. Green, Indianapolis Junior Chamber of Commerce president, will speak on the City manager ‘movement tonight at a meeting ‘at South Bend called by the South Bend Civic Planning Association. Under. Mr. Green’s leadership, the Indianapolis Junior Chamber is supporting a bill enabling Indianapolis to have a city manager government.

Indiana and a graduate of Indiana University. The Broad Ripple High School orchestra is to present a 30-minute concert under the direction of W. O. Beckley as an opening feature of Sunday’s program.
VOTE OF MACHINISTS "APPROVED BY NLRB
Victory of Local in Zenite ‘Election Is Certified.
The National Labor Relations Board today certified the victory of the International Association of Machinists, Local 1022, A. F. of L., in a representation election at the Zenite Metal Corp., 201 N. West St. The certification was made after Robert M. Cowdrill, NLRB director, held 13 disputed ballots ineligible. The U. A. W. Locals 226 and 442 disputed the claim of the I. A, M. for exclusive representation of workers in the plant, The results of the election certified by the board were the U. A. W., 113, and the I. A. M,, 122. Labor Board officials said that the corporation agreed that thé winner of the election would be the collec-
