NEW GLASS PROCESS ELIMINATES GLARE

SCHENECTADY, N. Y. Dec. 27 (17. P.) —Dr. Katharine B. Blodgett, .a scientist in the General Electric Research Laboratories, has discovered a process to eliminate the giare from glass, it was announced tcday. With application of thin chemical fims to both surfaces, the glass loses its thickness and becomes “clear as air.” The treatment, it was seid, makes it appear as if there were no glass at all. The process is still in the laboratory stage. The glare is caused by reflection of light upon the surface of glass. “At present it has not reached stich a staze that it can be offered] to the public,” she said. ‘However,

© we are hopeful that we may soon

do so.”

ONE DEAD, 20 SAVED IN TENEMENT BLAZE

Earlier in the night fire had broken out in an apartraent in the same neighborhood. Firemen discovered that the blaze had been set in three places in the|2 apartment, which had been burgIarized.

‘BOUNCING BERTHA’ FAKING, AUTHOR SAYS

| (Photo, Page 18)

NEW YORK, Dec. 27 (U, P.)=— John Mulholland, prestidigitator and . guthor, said today that “Bouncing Bertha” Sybert of St. Charles, Va, was hoodwinking any one who believed spirits were shaking her bed. It was noteworthy, he said, that whenever such reports of supernatural manifestations cropped out, the mediums were in nearly all vases young girls. Another | parallel, \Mr. Mulholland said, (was thatthe “spirits” ‘usually worked at the girls’ bedpides. Two University of Tennessee proi Jessors who observed the 9-year-old - girl's bed-shaking, reported that it was caused by the child’s voluntary

: muscular action, and not by ghosts * or witches.
