Chief clues to the identity of the! killer were the rope and burlap bag! in which the body was wrapped. Benjamin K. Lee, hemp products] expert, was directed to trace the! source of the bag and rope. Mi-| croscopic examinations were to be made of the ground around the spot for other clues. No trace of the girl’s clothing was discovered. Maj. Clark said he hoped that closer inspection of the body might Gisclose fingerprints. Automobiles were prevented from using the roadway near the scene in order to preserve any tire tracks. After the girl’s mother had identified the body, she said: “We are relieved that our daughter has been found, and is not being |theld a prisoner. We would rather + know she is dead than believe she was in the hands of white slavers.” The mother was near collapse.
It was by the merest chance that the body was discovered. Anthony Rezykowski, 19-year-old trapper, slid down the bank of Keelersburg Creek to set a trap when he saw the girl's hand protruding only a few inches above the water. He dropped his traps and ran to a nearby farmhouse, where he telephoned to authorities. Lee Dodson, principal of the| business school from which - Miss] Martin recently was graduated, told » lguthorities he had received a telephone call early Saturday from a
