Hook Tells Employers That Workers Wield Power.

Only by slucating wage workers in the simple economics of business will American private enterprise or the incentive system be preserved, according to Charles R. Hook, president of the National Association of Manufacturers. Mr. Hook, president of the American Rolling Mills Co., spoke at the meeting of the Associated Employers of Indiana held in the Columbia Club last night. | “If we are to preserve the private enterprise or incentive system which has brought to :this country the highest standard of living of. any place in the world, we must do everything in our power to present to the rank and file of our people the simple economics of business,” he said. “If we do not, the pseudo economists and false philosophers will be able to ‘sell their viewpoints and our system will fall, and with it the high standard of living we have attained. | “In the last analysis it is voters who determine national law and policy. The balance of power in the voting ranks lies in the hands of those who work for hourly wages. “Neither men nor nations can get together and co-operate in their common interests until there has bgen established confidence built upon a foundation of understanding,’ he said. “We believe confidence will be created” when carefully thought out policies are definitely statéd so the man on the job knows where his company stands on all matters of prime importance to the organization.”
