MOST OF GAINS TRADING HEAVY
Profit-Taking Reduces a
Few Early Tops; Main
List Is Strong. . NEW YORK, Dec. 15 (U. P.); Stocks rose fractions to more than 2 2 - points today in the heaviest trading sinee Nov. 10. The advance was limited by profittaking which scaled top gains in most issues around midsession and forced a few active shares below previous closing levels. The main list, however, showed a strong undertone. Aviation shares held well after the group had reached the best general level of the year. Douglas showed a 1% point gain. 7 Steel shares were active with
Bethlehem up more than a point A
and U. S. Steel up a major fraction. Motor leaders were up fractionally, while the auto equipments and rubbers eased to around their previous closing levels. ~ Rails, cement, building, chemical, selected chain store, oil and railroad equipment shares set up gains ranging to more than a point and neld well. Domestic corporate bonds scored ‘further substantial gains on continued aggressive demand. Gains ‘ranging to more -than a point were recorded in early 'dealings. Rails, utilities and industrials were equally supported on the advance. U. S. Government obligations declined irregularly. Early losses ranged * to 5-32 point, while there were a few small scattered gains. Foreign funds advanced irregularly. South American and Japanese + liens firmed. Curb stock maintained early gains ranging from fractions to more than

Active industrial issues were strong under leadership of Carrier Corp, up 1!2. Aluminum Co. of America touched a new 1938 high at 129% up 1% among special issues. Utilities ‘ware firm. Bell Air made a new 1938 high at 31, up 1, and
other aviation stocks were fraction- 1S
