N ew T own of Leavenworth To Be Dedicated Tomorrow

\ LEAVENWORTH, Dec. 14—This Ohio River town of 500 persons that the 1937 flood could wash away but could not kill is to be officially christened on its new location tomorrow by Governor Townsend and heads of

agencies which made its rebirth possible. * Originally this community was located on a lip of low land jutting out into the river, but the flood demolished almost all of the buildings.

The new town has been completely relocated and now is situated on a bluff overlooking the former site. Its removal was suggested by the Governor when he visited this area during the flood, and this plan later was approved by Harry Hopkins, Federal relief administraor. -

The State Planning Board laid

out a plan for a completely new town, the WPA constructed the streets, sidewalks, water supply system, sewer system and city building at a cost of approximately $130,000, the Red Cross supplied building materials and the State Health Board supervised® the water and sewer systems.

A road was rerouted ,by the State Highway Commission after consultations with the U. S. Army
