Center. “Our problems are not produced by politics but have been previously: produced in laboratories and - the shops of inventors,” he said. “No sound economist will deny that America has the farms, the factories an necessary to produce a high standard of living for -all. The crux of the problem is—we can produce al we need, but we cannot buy it.” Governor LaFollette asserted that only through a third party will we be able to expand our new economic frontiers and still retain the individual liberties and rewards for creative endeavor. “Neither of the old parties is able to face the issues of today,” he said. “Both are built on issues long past and dead and neither can unite itself
our times.” Asserting that New Deal policies are pointed in the wrong direction, he said no nation can afford the extravagance of paying millions of people to stay out of production. “What's wrong with the WPA is that too often it is raking leaves, not making shoes, bread and other forms of real wealth,” he said.

Rubber Stamp to Be Tossed Out Window, Washington Review Predicts.
WASHINGTON, Dec. 12 (U. P.) ~~ The U. S. Chamber of Commerce in its weekly Washington review today|; forecast, increasing independence in the new Congress which will assemble in January. Pointing out that no definite Administration legislative program has yet emerged, the review commented: “There is a distinct impression that the new Congress is in a mind to write its own ticket and toss the rubber stamp out the window.” The chamber forecast Congress: would pay attention to Social Security Act amendments, changes in the National Labor Relations Att, revision of farm legislation and national defense, “The alleged political activities of such agencies as WPA in attempts at primary purges and in recent elections will undoubtedly claim the spotlight during the session,” the review said. “The chase of alleged ‘monopolies’ will continue through the session but with no immediate prospects for definite legislation, Government spending will come: in for an enlarged share of legislative scrutiny. Many statesmen have taken a solemn oath ‘never again’ to sign away their constitutional birthright of control ot Government expenditures to appointive afficers .and bureaucrats. Time alone can reveal the binding qualities of such fervent pledges. “All'. in’ all, at this distance, it promises to be a session of ‘much
