' CHICAGO, Dec. 8 (U.P.).—Wheat prices ruled firm on the Chicago Board of Trade today, reflecting strength at Liverpool and a higher Winnipeg market. At the end of the first hour wheat was up % to 3% cent, corn up % to 3% cent, and oats % cent higher. After the opening fractional advance trading in wheat in the local market became more mixed, with
scattered commission house and local selling entering the market. Liverpool wheat closed strong 1% to 1% cents higher, Winnipeg was up % to ¥% cent in the first hour. Export sales of Manitobas were placed around 500,000 bushels.

A 20-cent rise today in butcher hog prices sent the top on 160-170-pounders to $7.90, according to the Bureau of Agricultural Economics. Weights under 160 pounds advanced only 10 cents. Packing sows sold weak to 15 cents lower, from $6.75 to $7.15. Fat cattle prices rallied again in
active trade. Steers were in meager supply and sold at strong prices. Heifers in plain Gnd medium grades tended 25 cents higher. Steers ranged downward from $9.75; heifers, $7 to $9. Vealers lost 50 cents from yesterday's quotations. Practical top settled at $10 with a few selects bringing $10.50. Despite large receipts sheep ‘and Jamb values held steady. Bulk of fed Western lambs cleared from $9.25 to $9.50. Native offerings received $9.25. Fed yearlings moved from $7.50 to $8. Top on slaughter ewes was $4.50.

LONDON, Dec. 8 (U. P.).—The International Copper Cartel has moved to maintain the world price structure of the metal with an an-
nouncement that production will be cut to 105 per cent of she standard tonnages effective Dec. 15, and to 100 per cent beginning Jan. 1. There are no restrictions on production at the present time. The Cartel placed output on an unlimited basis as of Oct. 15, against a 105 per cent rate existing prior to that date. Recently, however, the Cartel took cognizance of the weakening price structure, resulting from a sharp increase in supplies outside of the United States and a falling off in European production, by placing
NEW YORK, Dec. 8 (U. PJ). Stocks moved irregularly in a narrow range during the morning dealings today but early in the third hour exhibited a firmer tone. Trading was light after a moderatively active opening. In the early afternoon trading, leading issues were slightly higher. Aviation issues held in the early trading. Several, including Boeing and Glenn Martin, had small gains. Motors were aided when General Motors Corp. reported its November sales at a record high for that month. WHEAT EXPORTS DECLINE
CHICAGO, Dec. 8 (U. P.) —World wheat exports last week totaled 11,769,000 bushels against 12,335,000 the previous week, according to J. G. Bennett & Co. North America shipped 4,729.000 bushels last week against 6,322,000 the previous week.
The weather map showed very little precipitation in the Southwest, with a forecast of fair weather for Kansas. Corn prices were firm on export buying and buying in sympathy with Liverpool and Buenos Aires. The latter market closed 3 cents higher 5 3 | yesterday. 7| corn were estimated around 500,000 bushels overnight. Local receipts were placed at 71 cars.

P.)— Average crude oil production for the week ended Dec. 3 dropped to a level well below the preceding week and the Bureau of Mines’ estimate of daily needs, but gasoline stocks continued their seasonal rise, according to the report of the American Petroleum Institute. Crude Oil production for the week averaged 3,223,650 barrels. daily, compared with 3,260,900 barrels in the preceding week and with 3,387,000 barrels in the corresponding 1937 week. The Bureau of Mines’ estimate places the nation’s require-
age of 3,305,800 barrels a day. Stocks of finished and unfinished gasoline as of Dec. 3 totaled 69,155,000 barrels against the preceding week’s revised total of 68,736,000 barrels, and compared with 71,244,000 on the corresponding date a year ago. Stocks of gas and fuel cil were estimated at a total of 151,617,000 barrels, compared with 153,634,-
year ago. Imports of petroleum for domestic use and receipts in bond at principal United States ports during the week totaled 1,180,000 barrels, a daily average of 168,571 barrels, which compared with the pre=vious weeks 133,429 barrel average,

NEW YORK, Dec. 8 (U. P.).— Electricity production in the week ended Dec. 3 rose to the best level since Sept. 3, 1937, when the record high was established, according to the report of the Edison Electric Institute. : Output for the latest week amounted to 2,285,523,000 kilowatt hours, a gain of 6.2 per cent—the best of 1938—over the corresponding 1937 period. In the preceding holiday week, the total of 2,183,807,000 kwh. represented a gain of 5.7 per cent over the 1937 period. the week ended Sept. 4, 1937, when the record high was set, production amounted to 2,320,982,000 kwh. All of major geographic regions participated in the week’s gains.
