McNew Paces Bowlers With
Score of 718
Chase Runnerup With Count Of 705; Argus Hits Pins for 703.
Indianapolis League bowlers usually dominate the Wednesday night Shooting Stars and last night’s rolling was no exception.
The fast quintets placed 25 of
their their members in the 600 or better series bracket, leaving oniy 11 spots to be filled by bowlers in other circuits. Top man of the evening was Don McNew who scattered the maples at Pritchett’s with games of 256, 213 and 249 for a 718 total in the Indianapolis League. His team, the
LaFendrich Cigars, lost two ‘of three,
games, however, to the Chasers, but scored a team high of 3221. McNew’s closest rival was Leonard + Chase, leadoff man for the Chasers, who bunched games of 237, 223 and 245 for his 705. Frank Argus helped his L. S. Ayres team to beat the Coca-Colas in the Indianapolis loop by rolling a 703 for third place among the Shooting Stars. On the distaff side Iris Ronk whipped the pins in games of 168, 221 and 154 for a 543 total in the Eli Lilly Ladies’ League, and Fehr bunched a 209. 195 and 150 for a 554 in the Roberson Coal League at the Fox-Hunt drives.

Old-Timer of Ring Fights Blindness
ST. LOVIS, Dec. 8 (U. P.).—Jack Tippett, 55-year-old former fighter who knocked out Andy Malloy in 1916 after Malloy had slugged it out for 20 rounds with Jack Demp-
93 |sey, may return to his old trade of
matchmaking here despite the handicap of almost total blindness. Tippett says he has “a, couple of
663 offers” to resume ~matching fightf3%lers, however, but said he is “still
a>
looking around to make sure of the situation.” : Tippett. reached his peak as a fighter when he was matched to
n fight Stanley . Ketchel. Before the 27bout was held, however, Ketchel
was shot and killed. After the Ketchel affair Tippett’s
s own career was decidedly downhill, and when his sight began to fail Z|shortly thereafter he was forced to retire from actual combat.
For years Tippett made his own
604|way as a masseur, trainer, saloon
keeper and fight promoter despite his blindness. -At times he even managed to amass considerable cash.
Toles and Barlund In 10-Round Fight
~ NEW YORK, Dec. 8 (U. P.).— Roscoe Toles, Detroit Negro heavyweight, was a 6-5 favorite today to defeat Gunnar Barlund of Finland in their 10-round ‘redemption fight” tomorrow at the Hippodrome. A few months ago, this bout would have drawn a big gate at Madison Square Garden because both were considered such tough customers that none of the top-
flight heavyweights would meet them.
« But they're fighting 10 reunds at the “Hip” instead of 15 at the Gar-
Iden because each lost to easy opponents in their last trips through the
ropes. Barlund was upset by Lou Nova of Almeda, Cal, and Toles was surprised by Willie Reddish, Philadelphia Negro.
