ASKS POLICE PENSION OR REINSTATEMENT *
The Safety Board today took unSer advisement a petition of John T. Hastings, 51. for reinstatement to the Police Force. Mr. Hastings told the board he had joined the force in 1916 and in his third year of servjce suffered exposure on duty and was ill for a year. He said he was pensioned at $25 a month and subsequently was employed as janitor by the School Board. He said he was sole support for his wife, two daughters, father-in-law and mother-in-law. After 15 years, he said, there was a protest to his dual income from taxpayers and he was discharged by the School Board. About the same time, he was examined by the Pension Fund physician and pronounced fit to resume duties. His pension then was stopped, he said, but he was not re-employed on the force. Through his attorney, he demanded that either his pension be resumed or he be re-employed at full salary as a patrolman.
