| Spare My Mother,’ 13-Year-Old Son of Anna Hahn Begs in Plea to Davey's Secretary

+ "COLUMBUS, O., Dec. 2 (U. P.).— Oscar Hahn, 13, went back to school * “in Cincinnati today hoping that his five-minute appearance before Governor Davey’s secretary would save his mother’s life. His mother is Anna Marie Hahn, a murderess, who = to be electrocuted next Wednesv ;

Secretary Daniel S. Earhart refused to let the bov see the Gov--ernor, but he listened to his plea

and promised that he would consider making his report to the Governor next Monday.

Mrs. Hahn's two lawyers brought the boy here. They took him first to the State Penitentiary, where he visited her. They said he begged ‘them to “take me to the Governor or somebody. . . . I want them to see me and know that 1 am a good son. I want them to know I am the kind of a boy who could not

have been raised by the kind of a woman they say my mother is.” They took him to Mr. Earhart, who previously had arranged a clemency hearing. The boy was administered the oath and testified formally.

Defense Attorney Joseph H. Hoodin asked him: “What do you think of the charges against your mother—that

she. poisoned seven men for their money?” “I don’t think she ever did that,” he replied. “She has been a good mother. I don’t want her to die. I don’t think there ever could be a mother as good as she is. Nobody can ever take her place.” “Do you know what will happen to your ‘mother if Governor Davey

refuses to grant clemency?” \ “Yes, sir,” the boy said.

‘Mr. Hoodin said: “We have

brought him to testify because we

want. to show what kind of a boy he is, and raise the question if a mother such as Anna is pictured could have a son like him.”

The boy said that if his mother’s life were spared “It would be the greatest Christmas I ever had or ever will have.”

He spoke without a trace of self-

consciousness, his blue eyes centered directly on Mr. Earhart’s face. Carl Rich, Hamilton County Prosecutor, arose. ; “Oscar is a fine boy,” he said, “but his mother is a mass-murderess in every respect. She does not deserve clemency.” Governor Davey left town last night, to.be gone until Tuesday. He

said he would make his decision

Tuesday, after studying Mr. Earhart’s report. ; “I will not allow any delay in this case,” he said. “The big question in my mind is whether to let a woman die .in the electric chair. I will either commute her sentence to life imprisonment or deny clemency. I will not grant a reprieve and leave the whole thing up to my successor.” John W. Bricker is governor-elect.

Mrs. Hahn was convicted of poi-

soning Jacob Wagner, 72. She was

suspected of having murdered six other men for their money.
