to her today he said: “Our -concern is that for a period of four . | years, according to your own statement, you have had before you charges that Mr. Bridges believes in and advocates overthrow of our existing form of government by force and violence.” -In answer to a previous letter from Mr. Chadwick, Miss Perkins had said that the Bridges case must await a Supreme Court decision in the Strecker vs. Kessler case, in which the Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that membership in the Communist Party was not sufficient grounds for deportation. She also pointed out that Mr. Bridges had denied he was a Communist.

If you remember it from its first appearance, you know that the picture is a fantastic thing dealing with the supposed native Haitian practice of zombiism, whereby persons are raised from the dead and exist, without souls or volition. What happens to Madge Bellamy, the heroine; Robert Frazer, the villian who covets her love, and John Harron, the stalwart hero, when they fall into Mr. Lugosi's baleful clutches, cannot be told, not because it’s so terrible, but because it has no sense.

One of the music season's events of prime importance will take place a week from Sunday afternoon, Dec. 4, when Kirsten Flagstad, acknowledged the world’s leading Wagnerian soprano of the present day, makes her first Indianapolis appearance. She will be heard in recital at 3 p. m. in English’s as the third of the Martens Concerts season attractions. An artist famed for her simplicity and modesty, Mme. Flagstad is a living contradiction of the popular and fictional idea of the prima donna. She admits that she would rather keep house than sing. Her present eminence was attained not through a soaring personal ambition, but because her husband persuaded her to emerge from a semiretirement some eight years ago.
