BANDITS TAKE $500

AT LA PORTE STORE

Haul Is Second in Northern

Indiana in 2 Days.

‘LA PORTE, Nov. 24 (U. P).— Bandits struck again in Northern

‘Indiana last night, tieing up the ‘manager of the Simon Wholesale

Grocery Branch here and escaping with more than $500 in cash and merchandise. Tuesday two gunmen held six persons captive 45 minutes in the Steuben County State Bank at An‘gola, before making their getaway

with more than $10,000.

Although both pairs of robbers

_ ‘bore striking similarities, it was

not believed the ones with $10,000

would stop to pick up the smaller

amount in the grocery, police said. Kenneth Murphy, 30, store man-

ager, struggled free of his bonds an hour after the bandits left. He notified police who spread the alarm through Indiana, Illinois and Michigan. The loot included $200 cash, 250 cartons of cigarets, 40 boxes of cigars, and 40 cartons of chewing gum. Murphy said the bandits appeared to be 35 and 45 years old, were five feet 10 inches tall and weighed 170 pounds. They were well-dressed. ?
