DAIRY PRODUCTS ARE FAVORED BY
BUSINESS GAINS
Larger Consumer Incomes Expected to Absorb ‘Milk Output. Times Special’ EET WASHINGTON, D. C., Nov. 21.— Improvement in business conditions and consumer incomes point toward some improvement in the dairy’ situation, even though production of milk and stocks of} manufactured dairy products continue af record high levels, accord-
ing to the Bureau of Agricultural Economics.
‘Total milk production on Nov. 1 was reported about 6 per cent higher than a year earlier—a new peak for that date. But consumption nas not been keeping pace with the continued record production, the Bureau said. September consumption of fluid milk and cream in Eastern markets, as indicated by market receipts, was considerably lower than a year earlier. For the past several months, consumption of manufactured dairy products, though relatively high compared with preceding years, has been low compared with current 5 | production.
Total production of the principal manufactured dairy products in September—the latest month for which: complete records are available—was 13 per cent higher than in the same month in 1937, and 3 per cent above the preceding peak for the month. As consumption has not kept pace, stocks of manufactured dairy products have been at record high levels during the late summer and fall months. Butter stocks: ‘on Nov. 1 were about 20 per cent.above the: preceding peak for that date in 1933. American cheese stocks exceeded the previous record in 1936 by 12 per cent. Despite large stocks, dairy products. prices continue: rather stable, largely because of Government purchases of butter. The Bureau pointed out that because of the price support provided by heavy Government purchases last summer, the usual marked rise in butter prices from late summer to early winter has not been noted this season, Butterfat prices show but little change from prices paid to producers during July,’ August and September. In relation to feed costs, current butterfat prices are about the same as the average for the period 1925-29, and for the post-year period as a whole. This relationship is expected to show but little change during the winter months.
FRUIT JUICE YIELD HIGH
Times Special WASHINGTON, D. C. Nov. 21.— The fruit juice industries have grown during the last nine years, from a production of little more than 1,000,000 cases in 1929 to about 24,000,000 cases during the last year, according to The Agricultural Situ-
0lation, monthly publication of the .|Bureau of Agricultural Economics. re-

WOOL VOLUME IS SMALL
volume of business in the Boston wool market: during the last week was small, according to a report by the U. 8. Department of Agriculture. Quotations on combing bright fleece wools were steady at 29 to 31 cents in the grease for fine delaine and half-blood staple, and 32 to 34 cents for three-eighths blood, and at 31 to 33 cents for quarter blood.
DIVIDEND ANNOUNCED Times Special
