No Country! NowHeCan't Even Set Sail

NEW YORK, Nov. 10 (U. P.). — John Dolanchuk, the man without a country, lost his ship today. Officers of the United States Liner President Roosevelt flatly refused to haul him on another round trip, and sailed away, left him sitting on the pier under guard of immigration officers. He was locked up at Ellis Island while authorities decided what to do with him. ‘Mr. Dolanchuk, 43, a native of Austria, was deported from this country several months ago. He was put on the President Roosevelt and was still aboard when the ship returned. Germany had refused to admit him. Immigration officers here refused to let him return, so he stayed aboard the ship. Although the line is subject to a heavy penalty for re- ' fusing to comply with the Labor Department’s deportation order, officials said compliance in this case was a physical impossibility, and that Mr. Dolanchuk had ridden free long enough.

PROBE DEATH OF MAN FOUND UNCONSCIOUS

Deputy Coroner Hugh K. Thatcher today was investigating the death of Elmer Bailey, 36, of 418 N. West St., who died today at City Hospital. Mr. Bailey was found unconscious on the corner of Michigan and Indiana Ave. early in the morning of} Sept. 4. When he regained consciousness at City Hospital, he told police conflicting stories of being beaten and robbed by two strange men and a woman after spending the evening drinking at a tavern. Later he said he had been injured in a fall. Tire marks at the intersection where he was found also indicated Bailey may have been a victim .of a hit-and-run motorist, police said.
