STRONGER; AUTO, ISSUES DECLINE

Washington Announces Plan To Increase Electricity Production.

NEW YORK, Oct. 28 (U. P).— Utilities and railroad shares strengthened on’ the stock market today, while other sections were irregularly lower. Demand for utilities followed announcement out of Washington that leading utility companies in the nation’s strategic war material centers would inimediately place orders for

tricity production facilities in line with the country’s defense program. Railroads strengthened when it was learned the rail wage committee would issue its report after the close tomorrow. Other news was mixed with automobile producttion making another rise and car loadings declining. Automobile issues were neglected with prices lower. Steels showed minor losses. Oils held about steady. Aviations suffered small losses on profit-taking. Electrical eqipments and coppers were steady. Domestic corporation bonds moved irregularly higher in early fairly active dealings. In the rail group, Nickel Plate 6s of 1938 pushed up 1% points to a new 1938 peak at 991%, while the 4s of 1948 jumped more than 2 points. Other rails generally were fraction-

|ally higher. Industrials were steady.

Foreign funds declined irregularly with Japanese issues easier. U. S. Government obligations ‘were steady in dull trade. Curb stocks moved irregularly higher in early dealings on the New York Curb Exchange today. In the utility list Electric Bond & Share § preferred eased 1% points, while the common and American Gas & Electric had fractional losses. Niagara Hudson Power, American Super Power 6 preferred ‘and United Gas had small gains. Babcock & Wilsox was up a point in industrials. Lockheed and Fairchild were fractionally higher among aviation shares, Gulf Oil and Pantepec were up fractionally in the oils.
