Keglers Capture Places ‘On Bowling Honor List

Fonnie Snyder’s 691 Tops Individuals as Barbasol Quintet Leads Teams With 3214: Keiser Continues High-Scoring Pace.

"Just about the time the bowling honor roll contracts a dangerous case of anemia along comes the Indianapolis League to doctor it up. For the firstMtwo days of this week the honor count list all but collapsed and would have looked like a deflated balloon last night had not the Indian-

apolis circuit keglers pumped it full, [ey completely dominated the night's play. Twenty-four of them gisde he fionor roll, they captured wne first six places and 20 of the first 22, five of their squads hit quintet totals of over -3000 and 12 teams rolled 2700 or better. The two keglers to sneak in the Indianapolis League’s first 13 honor game rollers were Jeff Atherton of Mutual Milk and Carl Kiefer of the Interclub circuit—both with a 664. The other pair among the 20 Pritchett Alley loop lumber-getters were Paulsen of Central No. 2 with a 639 and Ed Keiser of Interclub with a 636. Keiser last week shot the season’s first perfect game and is continuing the hot pace initiated by that feat. He usually averages around 195. ? The Indianapolis team to take high quintet honors was the Barbasols’ with a powerful 3214. Each member of the squad, except Lee

s > Carmin, hit well over the 600 mark

and Lee missed by only eight pins. Fonnie Snyder’s 691 paced the group, Don Johnson—with a beautiful 278 final game—smacked out a 671, John Fehr posted a 635 as he finished strongly with a 266, and Phil Bisesi rolled consistently for a 625. Their score: BARBASOLS 228

Their opponents, the Russet Cafeteria, hit well throughout the squad as they scored a 2908. The Falls City Beers rolled an even 3100 with games of 1068, 1088 and 944. Four members of the squad hit 600 or better as they downed L. S. Ayres, two to one. Herff-Jones shaded the Bowes Seal Fast by three pins to take their match, two to one. Bowes took the first game 1076 to 1037, Herff-Jones annexed the middle one, 1058 to 1005 and then won the match, 996 to 993. A 244 by John Murphy in his final game as the last man to roll clinched the victory. The total difference was only 11 pins. The Ajax Beers finished ahead of the Conkle Funeral Home as they rolled a good 2961. Coca Cola shut out the Chasers, La Fendrich took the odd game from Marotts and while the Barbasols were blazing out their 3214 total the Russet Cafeteria grabbed one game from them. The Russets intial 1037 roll was too good as the Barbasols could only garner a 994. Adams of the Superior Oil Squad in the St. Johns Evangelical circuit, also at Fountain Square, led the league with a 614. ERIE, Pa. Oct. 37 (U. P.).—The Chicago Cardinals, hard luck club of the National Football League, were buried deeper in the Western | Division cellar today after a 7-0 defeat by the Philadelphia Eagles. A fumble by Chicago Halfback Sloan on the nine-yard line just as ‘the first period ended set up the Philadelphia touchdown. Two line plays carried the ball to the six and the Eagles resorted to passing. The first was incomplete, then Dave Smukler threw one to Joe Carter in the end zone for the touchdown.
