Both Captains Complain After Trophy Race Ends

BOSTON, Oct. 27 (U. P.).—Capt. Angus Walters, who retained the International Fishermen's trophy in his'schooner, Bluenose, said he would would never race his boat in U. S. waters again. - After winning the fifth and deciding race of the series against the

American challenger Gertrude L. Thebaud yesterday, Walters said:

“All

the bickering and squabbling over the race was unnecessary and I don’t

want any more of it.” Capt. Ben Pine of the Thebaud, out of Gloucester, already had announced that this would be the last time he would challenge for the trophy. Bluenose’s margin of victory was two minutes and 50 seconds around the 36-mile course. The Nova Scotia boat had won. the second and third race of the series, while the Thebaud had taken the first and fourth. Capt. Cecil Moulton, who was at the helm of the challenger yesterday, blamed defeat on Capt. Charles N. Lyons, U. S. steamboat inspector, who was chairman of the race committee. Lyons called a postponement of Tuesday's race because of storm warning. The Thebaud, a smaller boat than Bluenose, needs a good wind to do her best. “Capt. Lyons kept sending us out when there wasn’t enough wind for a real fisherman's race,” Moulton said, “then kept us in port as soon as a fair breeze started blowing.”
