GANGER VICTIM IS RECOVERING
_14-Year-Old Boy Patient Who Yearned for Cub Victory Expected to Live. CHICAGO, Oct. 27 (U. P.) — Johnny English, 14-year-old can-
cer victim who four months ago was given only a 1000-to-one chance to
live more than a month, is on the
road to recovery, a Mercy Hospital « attache reported today. Johnny has shown remarkable progress during the past week. Yesterday he got up and walked about % the hospital for a few minutes. He is suffering from a cancerous disease which follows along the
o Nerves and usually is fatal in a few
weeks. He is an ardent baseball fan and a few weeks ago attracted attention when it became a question & whether he would live long enough to hear the World Series over the radio. Physicians said his will to live ® was strengthened by his desire to see his favorite team, the Chicago Cubs, win the Series. Johnny was disappointed when they lost but his family and physicians kept his interest alive by arranging for him to talk to screen star Shirley Temple and other child celebrities on the telephone. His physician, Dr. Herbert Schmitz, declined to discuss his condition. - However, Dr. Schmitz’s assistant said Johnny has been treated with a supervoltage X-ray and that it appears it will be successful. Another hospital attache said it was possible that Johnny's case, which had been diagnosed as neurogenic sarcoma might actually be a slower-spreading form of sarcoma which responds more readily to Xray treatment.

CATHOLICS ASKED TO ABANDON SWING
BILOXI, Miss., Oct. 27 (U. P.).— Archbishop Francis J. L. Beckman of Dubuque, Iowa, today asked Catholic youth to abandon swing music and modernistic art. The prelate, in a paper read for
‘him by Msgr. Michael J. Ready at
