since last December. As a result - new buyers came into the motor

shares where Chrysler made a new 2

high. General Motors was around its best level of the year and a point above the previous close. Other members of the automobile section, including the low-priced motor shares, rubbers, and accessory company stocks moved up in fairly active turnover. Reo made a new high on an active turnover.

A Good buying came into the rail- A roads. Santa Fe was up a point and

the other leaders gained fractionally with new highs for the year in Illinois Central and Southern Railway. Norfolk & Western spurted + points to 189% actions.

A Douglas Aircraft made a new high a

at 61%, up 33% points. Du Pont, Loew’s, Lone Stat Cement, Firestone, and American Steel Foundries made new highs in their respective divisions.

CHICAGO, Oct. 22 (U. P)— Wheat prices eased in sympathy with Winnipeg after early firmness or. the Chicago Board of Trade today. At. the close wheat was off 1; to 5% cent, December 66 cents; corn was 14 to 3 cent lower, December 46%, and oats were 4 to % cent lower, December 25% cents. Opening quotations in wheat were irregular, but fair buying after the start pushed prices up % cent be-

h fore profit taking and some com-

mission house selling reversed the

|trend. Weakness at Liverpool was

largely ignored in early trade. Prices abroad were % to 1% cents lower with particular liquidation in the October future.

One of the oldest and best of the music broadcast series returns to the air tomorrow when the New York Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra begins its ninth radio season at 2 p, m. on CBS-WFBM. And ‘an eagerly awaited debut is scheduled at 5 p. m. tomorrow on NBCBlue, when the first of 16 New Friends of Music concerts will be heard. John Barbirolli again will be at the Philharmonic-Symphony helm, and Deems Taylor's “between halves” comments again will be heard. The program includes Weber's “Freischuetz” - Overture; two Sibelius items: “The Swan of Tuonela” and “The Return of Lemminkainen”; Stravinsky's “Fire Bird” Suite; an Adagio and Fugue for strings by

Mr. Barbirolli certainly hasn’t built his program in the conventional order. : Duo-pianists may be familiar with the Mozart Fugue on this program, since iti originally was written for the two keyboard instruments in 1783. Five years later Mozart scored it for strings and added the Adagio introduction. : 2 2 2 Tomorrow’s Friends of Music concert and that of the following Sunday will be devoted to Bach's six Brandenburg Concertos. The next six Sundays will be given over to the complete cycle of Beethoven Quartets. Two concerts of the Orchestra Suites and two Solo Cantatas by Bach will follow, and the broadcast series will conclude with
