TONIGHT ; 7:30—Tommy Dorsey, WIRE. * 9:30—Paul Whiteman, WFBM. +8:00—Fred Allen, WIRE. us 8:30—Star Theater, WFBM. °

Wednesday's new. “Star Theater” (8:30 p. m,, CBS-WFBM) seems to be doing a good. bit of personnel shuffling among the guest stars. On the first program Ned Sparks made an unscheduled appearance. Last week Elaine Barrie sneaked in, without benefit of fanfare, to appear opposite her husband, John Barrymore, in “The Jest.” And tonight Miriam Hopkins will be starred in place of the previously scheduled Margaret Sullavan. Either of these actresses may be counted with the screen’s first ladies, so there should be no disappointment at the substitution, Miss Hopkins will do an original, Max Reinhardt-directed radio play ‘vith Adolphe Menjou, the show’s regular master-of-ceremonies. dort With the rapid rise of the ques-tior-and-answer program to the top of radio popularity, another microphone fashion is growing upon us unaware. That is the trend toward a permanent leading man, a variation of the old stock company practice, three famous representatives in Mr. Menjou, Herbert Marshall and Don Ameche.

2 2 ® It looks as though this were to be blood-and-thunder night on the air. CBS-WFBM’s regular “Gang Busters” program—T7.p. m.—will have Col. H. Norman Schwarzkopf dramatizing the career of one Robert Cornette. On MBS-WGN at 9 p. 8 8 2
