Clamor for Variety of Pension Schemes Again Heard From Coast to Coast
WASHINGTON, Oct. 13.—0Id age pensions, which swept like prairiefire across the political scene of 1935, are back again in 1938 . . . hotter than ever. Congress, feeling the heat at a distance, will hold hearings early in January on a half-dozen pension plans. Rep. Robert L. Doughton (D., N. C.), Ways and Means Committee chairman, has promised that all plans will be given a hearing, and the present Social Security system is almost sure to be extended and liberalized as a result. States like California, Texas, Maine and Florida, already find
