TAXES HIGHER FOR |
PORTERVILLE, Cal P.) —This city has just had a most unusually “shady” deal in taxation. The board of equalization reduced the assessed valuation of all property on the east side of Main Street by 20 per cent. The reason was that property on the west side the street is considered more valuable than that on the east side because he sun shines on the latter while the west side is more shady and attracts more customers to stores there.

Julius Zimmerman, 614 EB. 20th St., later appeared at police headquarters and was charged with assault and battery with intent to kill. Police said the shooting followed an argument involving Hathaway's estranged wife. Four East Side boys between the ages of 9 and 13 today were held for the Police Crime Prevention Bureau after they allegedly used ice picks to puncture 32 tires on 12 automobiles parked from 1200 to 1600 BE. Washington St. { Police said they followed the trail of the punctured tires to the homes of the boys after a series of complaints were received from angry motorists. The boys said they took the ice picks to a movie theater and punctured the tires on their way home as a “prank.”
