WASHINGTON, Sept. 23 (U. P.). —The White House today announced appointment of Preston Delano, governor of the Federal Home Loan Bank Board, as Controller of the Currency. Mr. Delano’s appointment was announced by White House Secretary Early who met newspapermen at the hour of President Rooseveit’s customary Friday press conference. Lunches With Baruch He planned to see Louis Brownlow and Charles E. Merriam for a discussion of Government reorgan- | ization. They were the men who | drew up the reorganization plan | that was defeated after a bitter! Congressional fight. For luncheon, Mr. Roosevelt was to meet with Bernard Baruch, New York financier, and at 2 p. m. he will meet with his Cabinet for the regular weekly session. In response to queries, Mr. Early | indicated that the President would leave Washington next Thursday night for Hyde Park, provided he recovers from his cold and if the State Department believes the foreign situation has quieted suffi- | ciently to permit his absence from the city. i Mr. Early said he knew of no! plans.that would call for the President entering Pennsylvania to! speak in connection with the Demo- | cratic campaign in that state,
