Trading Light in Most Sections; Mining Shares Are Off.

NEW YORK, Sept. 22 early afternoon trading slightly | above early lows that were 1 to 3 points under the previous close. Trading was light in most sections. Alaska Juneau was active in the gold mining shares at a loss of 2 point at 9. Motor shares were slightly above early lows but more than a point net lower. The steel division behaved similarly. Railroad shares! firmed slightly ranged to 2 points. Utilities were] dull at small declines.

Czech Bonds Break

Meanwhile Czechoslovak dollar bonds broke sharply in the face of a gencral advance in foreign obligations on the New York Stock Exchange. Reports of new uncertainties in the Central European crisis made for the lower trend in Czech issues in early dealings. Government 8s of 1952 broke 4 points to 71 and the 8s of 1951 lost 3 at 71, while Praha 7!:s of 1952 fell 4 points to a new 1938 low at 58. German issues steadied and Italian and Japanese funds rose fractions to a point and more. Serbs-Croats and Slovenes 8s of 1962, issue, advanced 33 points to 25'%i. Rails had early losses ranging to

CHICAGO WHEAT CLIMBS 1 GENT; TRADING LIGHT

Corn Up to 33 Cent; Oats Unchanged; Winnipeg Strong.

CHICAGO, Sept. 22 (U. P)— Wheat prices worked 1 cent higher {on the Chicago Board of Trade today as disquieting European news and strength at Winnipeg prompted buying. At the end of the first hour wheat was up 1 cent, corn was up 3s to 3; cent, and oats were unchanged to 3s cent higher. Trading in wheat was fairly light, but there was enough uncertainty |© in the European political news to cause some short covering. Scattered commission house support was also evident. A strong Winnipeg market was a constructive factor in local trading.

No important business was indicated in U., 8. | wheat. Liverpool wheat closed strong on short covering and buying based on the better inquiry in the United Kingdom, Corn prices firmed in sympathy with wheat. Purchases to arrive were about 100,000 bushels. Export sales of 150,000 bushels of U. S. corn to the Continent were reported. Estimated grain receipts in Chicago today included 289 cars of corn and 39 cars of wheat.

5 to 10 Cents Vealers Steady

The first price change in hogs locally for almost a week found the market 5 to 10 cents lower today with he top price for 230 to 240pounders at $8.85, according to the Bureau of Agricultural Economics. Receipts increased to around 8000. The mild decline was suffered in the face of steady to higher prices at some nearby points to widen further the disparity of local levels. Weights scaling under 210 pounds took a 10-cent cut, with heavier weights off 5 cents. Packing sows were weak to 10 cents lower, good offerings bulking from $7.15 to $8, with occasional lightweights ahove.| Steers and yearlings consisted of | kinds from $7 to $9, with occasionally consignments up to $10. A load of good to choice 845-pound fed heifers reached $9.50, but bulk were plain and medium sorts from $6.50 to $8, with extremely thin grassers as low as $5. Vealers held steady, with the top at $10. No change appeared in lamb prices and good and choice ewe and wether springers bulked from $7.50 to $8, with the top $8.

REORGANIZATION REQUESTED BY SHAREHOLDERS

Seek Separation of Radio, Wire Units of Postal Telegraph. 4

NEW YORK, Sept. 22 (U, P).—A plan of reorganization for Postal Telegraph & Cable Corp. was on file today in the U. 8. District Court for the Southern District of New York by a bondholders’ protective committee headed by Robert Leh-

The proposal entails separation of Postal's Telegraph facilities from the cable and radio systems, and provides for the merger of the latter with all-America cables and Sociedad Anonima Radio Argentine. Both these organizations are subsidiaries of the International Telegraph & Telephone Corp. which owns a controlling interest in the common stock of Postal in addition to a $2,000,000 preferred stock interest. No provision was included in the

mon stockholders, but the court was informed that International Telegraph & Telephone would accept the proposal, subject to approval of its stockholders and to the completion of various traffic agreements. Federal Judge Coxe set Oct. 24 as the date for hearings on the submitted reorganization plan

Has Strong Support

The Lehman committee represents some $25,000,000 of the $50,670,209 collateral trust bonds and debenture stock outstanding. In addition, it is supported by another protective group including Cecil P. Stewart, Milton W. Harrison, Ham-

WAR RISKS BOOST PRICES OF IMPORTS

Raise in Insurance Rates Lifts Shipping Costs.

NEW YORK, Sept, 22 (U. P.).— Importers today sounded a warning that risks of war in Europe have brought sharp advances in the cost of insurance and that this rise will be reflected in boosts of 3 to 6 per cent in the retail prize of goods now en route to the United States. It was estimated that the present cost of insuring goods from the time of leaving European factories to de-

livery at New York piers has ine creased the buying cost in Europe § to 10 per cent and that it was only natural that this rise be taken into consideration in establishing retail prices in the United States. According to importers this rise in price will affect both fall and holiday reorders. Most first orders have been filled in Europe and are now en route but all reorders will have to bear the brunt of increased war insurance.

CHOCOLATE ECLAIRS BLAMED CHICAGO, Sept. 22 (U. P.).—Dr. Howard Shaugnessy, chief bacteri=ologist for the State Health Depart= ment, today named a batch of choc=olate eclairs as the most likely carriers of bacteria responsible for 150 cases of poisoning and one death in northwest Chicago and Elmwood Park.

Broadcasters are as busy this time of year as are the country’s football coaches, and both groups are intent upon somewhat the same thing. While the coaches are looking for new plays to fool the opposition, radio's idea men are trying equally hard to think of a new angle with fan appeal to cash in on the na-| tion's grid-consciousness. Tonight MBS-WOR has a new! one, called “We Want a ‘Touchdown.” Two “teams” of former football stars will line up and attempt to score on each other by answering questions on football tech- | nique. A “running play,” requir ing a “right” or “wrong” answer will net 10 yards. A “forward pass,” demanding a complete statement, gives the lucky expert 20. You may hear the curtain-raiser at 7:30 p. m.
