make full use of it? Many times] the oven could do double duty, thus | saving fuel as well as time. | The problem is to plan dishes! require approximately the! same oven temperature. You | couldn’t put a roast, which requires | a slow oven, into one which was heated to bake a pie. But there are other dishes, such as | casserole combinations, which call] for a moderate oven. At the same time, a cake or biscuits, custards, | spoon bread, baked apples, baked! potatoes or other vegetables and fruit can be cooked very nicely with them.
Cooking Time May Differ
It isn’t necessary that the foods require the same length of time to cook. Therefore, a meat dish which ! requires long, slow cooking may be cooked, covered, until nearly done. Then the temperature of the oven may be increased to brown the meat and begin baking the other food. The meat may be taken out and kept hot while the biscuits or rolls are given a final browning. There are many ways to make your oven serve you most efficiently
