BOSTON, Sept. 19 —Stocks of manufactured goods on hand have been dropping while there has been a decided increase in industrial
production,
the Parker Corp.
reported today.
Goods we are now
producing go into direct consumption and the consumption is great
enough to draw from stocks on hand.
A Dun & Bradstreet survey
showed that the biggest decline in stocks during the first six months of this year was made by the automobile industry with a drop of 38
per cent.
Many other industries followed.
This means that future
purchases will be quickly translated into busier factories.

MEMBER BANKS’ BALANGE LISTED UP 100 MILLIONS
Increase Lifts Surplus Reserve Near 3-Year Top Figure.
WASHINGTON, Sept. 19 (U. P). —Excess reserve balances of Federal Reserve Member Banks rose 1$100.000,000 in the week ended Sept. 14 to a total of $3,130,00,000, the weekly condition statement re- | vealed today. The latest increase lifted surplus reserves of the reporting banks to within 20 millions of the three-year high established July 13. Actual reserve balances were increased 156 millions to a total of $8,425,000,000, principally reflecting {a sharp drop in Treasury deposits and a further expansion of the nation's monetary gold stocks result{ing from the movement of foreign capital into American gold. Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks were reported at 346 millions off 215 millions from the preceding week and money in
rose 184 millions to a new record high of $13,421,000,000 and Treasury currency was increased four millions to a total of $2,733,000,000,
