Trio of Latin Dances Bidding for Spotlight At Junior Assemblies
Mrs. Gates Issues Invitations for Dance Series; Mrs. Maxwell Droke and Guest to Visit East and South.
By VIRGINIA MOORHEAD MANNON That debonair trio of Latin dances, the conga, rhumba and tango, will swing into the spotlight this season along with the lissome Viennese waltz. The Lambeth Walk, danced for fun as the Big Apple was last season, is to supplant the jaunty shag and suzy-Q. These terpsichorean prognostications are made by Mrs. William Byram Gates, sponsor of the Junior Assembly dances, for which invitations were issued today. For those easily disheartened by rhythms fickle fancies, there's consolation in Mrs. Gates’ explanation that the Latin dances are so simplified that “snyvone can learn and anyone can follow them.” The City already boasts ®8 group of young people who have suc-
cumbed to the fascination of Latin music and become proficient in the graceful Latin movements. Their ultimate popularity depends
the dancers’ ability to perform them, Mrs. Gates says. The Junior Assembly dances, now in their sixth year, will begin 14 with 8 party at the American United Life Bldg. They will be open to high school juniors and seniors who are graduates of Mrs. Gates’ dancing classes. A dinner-dance is scheduled Oct. 28 at Woodstock Club, a8 leap year dance Nov. 11 at the American United Life Bldg. a tea-dance Nov. 25 at the Indianapolis Athletic Club and a program-dance Dec. 9 at the American United Life Bldg.

The Christmas dance which always is attended by a number of bovs and girls from college will be heid Dec. 28 at the Marott Hotel. A supper-dance at the Indianapolis Athletic Club is planned Jan. 27 and a favor-dance will be given Feb. 14 at the American United Life Bldg. The closing party will be a dinner-dance March 24 at Woodstock Club. Mrs. Gates will be assisted at the Assemblies by Mrs. Eugene H. Brown and the Misses Barbara Haines, Betsy Home and Honoria Bacon, Patronesses in addition to the mothers of the members are Mesdames Frederic M. Avres, William C. Bobbs, James F. Carroll, D.
