Movies; Loew's Books New Pictures.
Year's Day' for
Today marks a double celebration fin the film industry. Not only is Sept. 1 the show world’s equivalent of New Year’s Day, but this date | Brlso marks the opening of Hollywood’s first concerted drive for record-breaking business in 1938-39.
Accordingly, Loew’s Theater Is
-- pretentious, is “Marie Antoinette,” | ~ which opens tomorrow. Bringing Norma Shearer back to the screen for her first appearance since | “Romeo and Juliet,” the new film is said to. be conceived and produced on the same lavish scale thas marked the Shakespearean m. :
Loew’s later releases will be drawn from the output of Columbia and United Artists, as well as M-G-M, which will supply the ‘three succeeding features. The ‘first of these is “Three Loves Has Nancy,” costarring the congenial trio of Robert Montgomery, Janet Gaynor and Franchot Tone.

: Next on the list is “Boys Town, with Spencer Tracy and Mickey Rooney in the leads. It is a story of the actual village of Boys Town, Neb., founded by the Rev. Fr. Edward J. Flanagan and run by boys who were “problem children” and other social misfits before they came under Father Flanagan’s influence. “Too Hot to Handle,” latest wehicle for Clark Gable and Myrna Loy, is booked to follow “Boys Town.” M-G-M’s juvenile con-

“Honolulu,” the forthcoming Eleanor Powell picture. Joan Crawford will be around about football time with “The Shining Hour.” Robert Taylor will be one of the stars of Kenneth Roberts’ best-seller, “Northwest Passage,” along with Spencer Tracy. The studio has another company at work in England on a second bestseller, A. J. Cronin’s “The Citadel.” Robert Donat and Rosalind Russell | will share top billing.

| United Artists is on the Loew's books with five entries. First is “The Young in Heart,” with Janet | Gaynor, Douglas Fairbanks Jr. and | Paulette Goddard. The studio next | will present ‘“There Goes My Heart,” | with Fredric March and Virginia | Bruce. Sabu, the East Indian lad who was the hit of “Elephant Boy,” is | to be seen in a new picture, Kipling’s “Drums.” Then United Artists will have a glorified “horse opera” in “Tie ‘Cowboy and the Lady.” Gary Cooper and Merle Oberon will have the title parts and they’ll both sing.
