40 MILLION FILE FOR AGE SECURITY
$782,662 Paid Out. Last Month, Board Reports.
WASHINGTON, Aug. 26 (U. P.). —The Social Security Board announced today that at the end of July. 40,097,446 employees had applied for social security cards. Although applicants for old-age insurance accounts constitute onethird of the population, the Board paid. out in benefits only $785,662 last month. Since payroll taxes began Jan. 1, 1937, it has disbursed only $6,700,000 to more than 184,000 workers retiring at 65 or to families of those who died before reaching that age. This is accounted for by the fact that earned credit, from which the lump sum retirement and death benefit payments are made, are necessarily small at the start.

The case is based on the activities of the two groups in fighting the organization and operation of a" District co-operative group health association. The Sherman Act makes illegal any tombination or conspiracy “in restraint of trade or commerce among the several states.” Congress defined “commerce” in the later Clayton Anti-Trust Act as meaning “trade or commerce among the several states and with foreign nations or” betw and® within United States territories or between those territories. and the several states.
