Inventors of Cotton Picker Limit Earnings to Establish Fund.

MEMPHIS, Tenn, Aug. 25 (U,

P.).~John and Mack Rust, inven=

tors of a mechanical cotton picker,

announced today formation of the Rust Foundation through which they plan to use a share of their

profits to aid Southern agricultural

workers. Under a charter of incorporation, filed at Nashville, the brothers included a clause placing a limit on their incomes from the machine of 10 times that of their lowest-paid employee. “We never have intended to use our invention for making money but to better the condition of Southern workers,” they said. “We believe it will be an interesting experiment in industrial history to put a ceiling on our income.” “Blessing, Not a Curse”

All income above the ceiling will go to the Foundation to make the labor-saving machine “a blessing and not a curse” to the South, they announced.

“We desire to offset the effect of labor displacement which use of the mechanical picker will bring

| about,” John Rust said. “We hope

our machine will relieve millions of workers from the back-breaking toil of picking cotton.” : Activities in which the foundation might engage included: 1—-To promote educafional and. health Bei and to establish and maintain agencies and inatitutions, including schools, libraries and hospitals. _ Seeks Higher Standards

2—To help individuals and families to raise their standards of live ing and become self-sustaining. 3—To giye financial, technical, advisory.or any other assistance to any institutions that are organized to accomplish or further the pure poses as set forth herein. 4—To operate { factories and such other enterprises as may seem useful in promoting the objects of the Foundation. The Foundation is a “nonprofit and nonpartisan educational institution” and forbidden to “discriminate against any person because of race, creed or color.”

Snapshot Spurs Police Chief Of Peoria Into Action.

PEORIA, Ill, Aug. 25 (U. P).— Glenn Morrison of Connellsville, Pa, got the information he asked for today. Mr. Morrison wrote to Police Chief Leo Kamins and asked him to ascertain “what kind of work” his son-in-law, Charles Hickman, was doing in Peoria. Chief Kamins took one look at the snapshot of Hickman enclosed in Mr. Morrison's letter, then ore dered every available policeman to search for him. The picture showed

| Hickman had an exceptionally long,

pointed nose. That was the distinguishing feature of a man sought for 14 “lovers’ lane” holdups, Hickman was arrested and Chiet Kamins was able today te forward to the father-in-law his admission that he had been supporting his 16-year-old bride on the proceeds of holdups. Arthur Eden, an alleged accomplice, was released on $1000 bond.
