It’s Indiana’s Tomato Week! Six days set aside to pay homage to one of the State’s largest and most important industries! Growers, processors, distributors and consumers plan the high spot of the celebration for tomorrow, Wednesday, August 24, when Indiana’s Own “Tomato Queen”’—Miss Peggy Walsh of Washington, Indiana, will reign during the state picking contest show and banquet. :
Last year’s tomato crop was worth close to $4,000,000 tg the Indiana Tomato Growers . . . with the prospects of - an even greater crop this year. The excellence of Indiana tomatoes and your enjoyment of tomato juice, canned tomatoes, catsup and other tomato products have brought Indiana to first place among the states of our country. So study the day’s program below and plan to attend at least one of the feature attractions.
PROGRAMME
TOMORROW—10: 30 A. M.... No matter what the weather may be, expert pickers rom every part of Indiana - will match their skill in the contest for state tomato picking championship. Location: Omer Green Farm, near U. S. Road 81, 10 miles southeast of Indianapolis.
TOMORROW—1:00 P. M. . . . Growers from every section of the state will display their best tomatoes at the show. Location: Lobby of the Claypool Hotel in Indianapolis. Cash prizes from $5 to $50 will be awarded at each of the two events. An exhibit of tomatoes packed in Indiana will also be held in connection with the show.’
TOMORROW—6:30 P. M. . . . Governor M. Clifford Townsend together with Miss Peggy Walsh, Indiana’s “To- : mato Queen,” will be honor guests at the banquet to be given by the Indiana Tomato Tournament in the Riley Governor M. Clifford Room of the Claypool Hotel, Indianapolis. The banquet will be the climax of the contest and show. Indiana tomaTownsend toes and tomato products will be featured on the menu for the banquet.
