SAVE B16 TOP. 1S ARDENT PLEA OF CIRCUS FANS

2 National Groups Launch Campaigns to Aid ‘Big And Little Kids.’

MADISON, Wis, Aug. 3 (U. P).— A nationwide drive to “save the circus” for the “big and little kids” of the country moved. forward here today with support of two groups of devoted followers of the “big top.” Ardent pleas to save the circus * from going off the road came from the Circus Fans” Association of America and a group of affiliated advertising clubs spreading from New York to Los Angeles.

Other Clubs Formed

The Circus Fans, closing their annual three-day convention here, . formulated a plan designed to preserve “an institution typically

American.” Details of the plan were not revealed because the Association feels the plan is more

likely to succeed without excessive publicity. : Co-operating with the Association as a separate movement, large groups of advertising men today prepared to ‘stimulate public sentiment into a realization that the circus can not go off the road.” Frank W. Magin, Detroit, chairman of the committee formed there to enlist support of the ‘“save-the-circus” movement, outlined the ad-

vertising men’s plan for preserv- |

ing the “big top” to the Association. He said that advertising clubs in Detroit, New York, St. Petersburg, Philadelphia, Columbus, O., Gary, Pa., Springfield, Mass., Los Angeles, Dallas, and Ft. Worth have been formed to aid the movement.

Result of Labor Trouble “We have no ax to grind ourselves and are making nothing out of the work,” he said. “But we

think that it is deplorable when |§

the institution that big and little

kids the country over love has to close.

“The ad clubs have no brief for |

labor or for management. All we want to ‘do is see that the circus is not forced out of existence.” Action by the Circus Fans and advertising clubs came as a result of the labor trouble in Scranton, Pa. several weeks ago forcing the Ringling Brothers-Barnum and

- Bailey Circus to return to winter

quarters in Florida. Failure of other circuses because of poor patronage also has spurred the movement.
