GONSTITUTION'S
DEFECTS MINOR, WILLIS ASSERTS
Faults Are Overshadowed by Blessings; G. 0. P. Senate Candidates Says. Times Special :
WATERLOO, July 20—The American Constitution may not be
. perfect in every detail but its minor
faults are far overshadowed by its blessings, in the opinion of Raymond E, Willis, G. O. P. nominee for U. S. Senator. Mr. Willis discussed the Constitution here last night before an audience ohserving the 150th anniversary of the Constitution. “I am thankful for this Constitution,” he said, because it gives me the undisputed right of possession te a place which I may call my own, a home. Into that home, so long as I live as a law gbiding citizen, no king can come, no subaltern, no officer of the law. I am protected against the invasion of those who would do me harm.
Wrongs Are Offset
“In the bosom of my family, we can speak our most sacred confidences. In this place myself and my family have our own kingdom. It is true that this privilege has sometimes been abused and often criminals have taken refuge behind this provision of the Constitution, but
-all the wrong that has thus resulted
is insignificant besides the happiness and security it has given to millions of law-abi citizens, | “I am thankful to’ this Constitution because it has given me the opportunity of establishing a business according to my own choice,” the Angola publisher continued. Yo government can tell me what profession I must follow, at what trade I must work, or limit my initiative and ambitions in any way. It is true that business sometimes takes advantage of the protection that the Constitution gives, and men have become selfish’ in amassing great. fortunes, but this wrong, too is insignificant beside the great opportunities which have been embraced by millions of men, and
through this protection employment,
livelihood and ‘benefactions have been given to millions. “And, finally, I am glad for some of the things which the Constitution omitted. Nowhere in that document
